2025 I Write Short Stories by Kids for Kids Publishing Contest Presents     Publishing is a powerful incentive for learning and a unique way to validate that a child’s voice should be heard.  Each year, young writers in the 3rd-12th grade all across the globe have the chance to be published authors and illustrators. This first taste of success can last a lifetime! The iWRITE Non-Profit Organization offers students the opportunity to submit their writing and artwork to our annual publishing contest. This year's theme is Heroes & Superheroes. Fiction and Non-fiction short stories, poetry, and art submissions are accepted from August 2024 through May 2025. The finalists will be named in September 2025. Our winners will be announced on our website and published in the I Write Short Stories by Kids for Kids 16th Volume Anthology. One hundred and twenty-five winners will be chosen and will receive one complimentary copy of the Anthology.

Grades 2-5: Letter-Writing 

Write a letter to someone, past or present, who has contributed to Texas history or culture, or is your personal hero. The letter can be business or personal and can be about any topic; however, it should show that you understand the importance of this individual’s contribution to Texas or your Texas story.

Grades 6-12: Fiction or Nonfiction Writing

Use an artifact from The Bryan Museum collection as inspiration for fiction or non-fiction writing, such as literary, informational, argumentative, correspondence or personal essay. For some examples of inspirational objects, check out the featured artifacts at www.iamtx.org. Note: Using a featured artifact does not increase your chances of winning.

The 2025 I Am Texas Art Contest is open to students in grades 2nd – 12th. Artwork should focus on the “I Am Texas” theme. Please review the contest rules and guidelines by grade level before you submit your artwork.

Digital art is only accepted for grades 9th – 12th and will be judged in the same category as hand-drawn or hand-painted art on paper or canvas.
